The Dotted Breve for Rhythmic Equality

According to a recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center, some 94 percent of 128th notes feel that they are viewed by musicians as notes to fear rather than notes to love and cherish. The survey found the outlook of 256th notes to be even more dismal. These statistics engendered profound sadness in my heart. Why do we, as musicians, force notes into this hurtful hierarchy?  Notes no more choose than their rhythmic value than we choose our height. The two most obvious ways to bring termination to this present cycle of injustice and marginalization is to refuse to make rhythmic distinctions between notes when playing, and also boycott all musical performances and recordings that do not act likewise.
Change is needed. Equality is demanded. Do your part to make music the language of (impartial) love.

Rite of Spring the Videogame

I recently undertook the massive task of taking one of the most epic pieces in the orchestral (and ballet) repertoire - Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring - and putting into video-game form for the masses. The plot would be like the ballet's. In Stravinsky's words, “I had a fleeting vision that came to me as a complete surprise ... I saw in imagination a solemn pagan rite: sage elders, seated in a circle, watching a young girl dance herself to death. They were sacrificing her to propitate the god of spring”. Game play will consist of mashing buttons to make the young girl dance to her death. A health bar near the top of the screen will gauge progress. The background music will be Pierre Boulez's recording of the Rite with the New York Philharmonic.

The Dotted Breve Founds Support Group for Plus-Sized Felines

The order of sharps in music is F,C,G,D,A,E, and B, conveniently also the first letters of each of the words in the sentence, "Fat Cats Go Down Alleys Eating Birds (or Bugs)." Long have fat cats been subject to this hurtful stereotype which is found offensive by cats of vegetarian diets and even more so among vegans.

I decided to interview a few furry fellows of portly girth, which proved to be quite enlightening on the nature of their struggles. One such feline, Felix, went so far as to say, "The assumption that cats eat birds is ludicrous and obscene. I am far above the consumption of such morally degrading sources of protein.” Another critter can be quoted more concisely, “Not all animals are animalistic. Some mnemonic devices are divisive.”

In light of this, the Dotted Breve Inc. has endeavored to begin a support group for the victims of this prejudicial acrostic. Group therapy and counseling will be standard treatment.

The Blog's Purpose

The terminology of Music Theory is colorful and exotic. While, in actuality, the terms refer to musical concepts, they can, quite convincingly, be twisted to hold other meanings and to comedic effect. One example, and also the blog's namesake, is the term, the "dotted breve," which denotes a note or rest that has a value of 12 beats. The term, as noticed quite astutely by a certain music theory teacher (who will "knot" be named here) could easily be the name of a hip coffee shop in an urban setting, or a high-brow blog of musical musings.
The purpose of The Dotted Breve is to provide a platform for music theorists to discuss possible alternate meanings for musical terms and for the Neobrawnist to show the world what  a true musician is like.
